Tournament Rules

 

The Tournament is an annual competition for individual and team awards.

1. The tournament shall begin Match 1 and end the last day (28th or 29th) of February

2. Two competing teams will be made up of life members and regular members in good standing.  Assignment to teams, to the extent practicable, will be by random process however: the Tournament Chairman is empowered to make adjustments he deems necessary to ensure parity of the teams.

3. All requests for points shall be turned into the tournament chairman within 30 days of the catch or take.

4. No game or fish taken with traps or nets will be allowed.

5. No more the 500 points may be scored for any species of game or fish listed.

6. Individual trophies shall be awarded as follows:

Only one trophy will be warded an individual.

Highest award qualified for will be awarded.
Total points hunting and fishing combined, first and second place
Total points hunting, first and second place
Total points fishing, first and second place
Most species hunting, first and second place
Most species fishing, first and second place
Bob Sandlon Memorial Award (Largest fish caught on annual Baja trip)
Largest deer Colorado Deer Hunt
Individual tournament trophies as specified by events chairman
Button fish and special merit awards

7. No more than the legal bag limit shall be allowed on any one day. 
    No more than 20 fish or game without a legal bag limit shall be allowed on any one day.

8. Points shall be awarded for any unsuccessful animal or bird hunt as follows:

10% of point total of one of the species hunted.
Example: Deer Hunt 500 x 10% = 50 points. If the hunt is for, more than one day only 50 points will be counted. Where 10% is less the 5 points, 5 points will be awarded.

9. Points shall be awarded for any unsuccessful fishing trip as follows:

Fresh water - 5 points
Half or 3/4. Day boat – 10 points
All Day boat - 15 points
Yellowtail, Albacore, Tuna chase boat - 20 points

10. Button fish will have to be 2 times the weight breaking strength of the line used for all species except marlin which will be 4 times the line test due to the quality and sophistication of the equipment that we have available to us.

11. Bonus tournament points for exceptional catches will be awarded as follow:

A. Button fish (2 times line test) 200 --except marlin must be 4 times line test

B. Special Merit (5 times line test) double catch (maximum 500 points.

C. Highest Award (10 times line test) the catch + 500 points.

12. Buttons will be awarded as follows:

A. First button fish Gold Button.
B. Second button fish Add Ruby to pin.
C. Third button fish Add Emerald to pin.

These are lifetime awards. Any button fish caught after 3 will receive mention at the Tournament Dinner and Awards Ceremony.

The club will furnish the first button and add the Ruby and the Emerald to the original button. If you lose your button or stones, replacements are at your own cost. Current tournament chairman can help with replacements. Costs will be those in effect at the time of replacement.

13. Bonus points for hunting or fishing will be awarded for kills or catch that are notable enough to earn the hunter a place in the record books of a nationally or internationally recognized listing authority (Boon & Crocket, Safari Club International, Pope &, Young, IGFA., etc).

A. Top 100 for species 200 points
B. Top 50 for species 500 points.
C. Top 10 for species double species points + 500 points.

Certification by the listing authority is required for bonus points to be awarded. Bonus points will apply to the next year’s tournament, if a decision on certification is pending on the last day of February.

14. Bonus awards will be over and above the 500 point maximum for each species.  A member may receive points for only one bonus per species per year.  If multiple qualifying fish are taken the one resulting in the maximum points will be counted

All bonuses require witnesses and a picture if possible.

15. The Awards Dinner will be served at the second regular meeting in March. 

The losing team shall prepare and serve a dinner for the winning team and do all cleanups afterwards. 

16 Decisions of the Tournament Chainman are final.
